At Michael Gallie and Partners, we take the attitude that if we can measure it, then we can model it. So we can work with you to come up with a bespoke solution to your modelling needs. Typically, our modelling output is focused on the built environment, but it is not solely limited to this field. We were once asked to measure a successful Guinness World Record attempt for the world’s largest beach ball on the River Thames! The ball was laser scanned and the resultant point cloud was analysed using CAD modelling techniques to measure the beach ball diameter.
Within the built environment, we have vast experience providing CAD modelling services to a wide variety of clients to fulfil numerous needs. Whilst we can work with you to meet your specific project detail and budgetary requirements, our CAD modelling services fall broadly into 3 main categories, showing different levels of detail:
- Mass models – these show the basic mass of a building as a simple block, or series of blocks. They accurately represent the main heights of the building. No architectural detail is shown.
- Outline Rights of Light style models – these show the mass of the building with all openings shown in basic outline form. Cornices and cills are also shown in outline form.
- Detailed Architectural models – these can be commissioned to show as much or as little architectural detail as is required. Both internal and external detail can be included, and we can show varying levels of detail in different areas where required. As with all of our survey products, we are happy to work with you at the costing stage to refine a solution that meets your scope and budgetary requirements.
All of the above models can be measured and modelled on OS grid and datum if required, so that they can be accurately positioned relative to the wider surrounding of the site. All site data for our 3D CAD models is collected using the latest static laser scanners and the model is created using the resulting point cloud directly in Autodesk AutoCAD (other CAD formats are available on request). We also can supply the point cloud in any industry standard format as an addition to the model.
