The Old War Office, a historic architectural masterpiece located in the heart of London’s Whitehall, is an iconic landmark that has played a significant role in British military history. Originally constructed in the early 20th century, this monumental building served as the headquarters for the British Army until its decommissioning in 2021. Designed in a grand neoclassical style, the Old War Office is characterised by its imposing façade and intricate interior details. It has been the backdrop for many pivotal moments in the country’s military and political history. In recent years, the building has undergone a transformation into a luxury hotel and residential development, preserving its historic charm while repurposing it for the 21st century.
As part of our efforts to document and adapt the Old War Office, we conducted several important tasks. This included creating floor plans to outline the building’s layout, crafting detailed elevations to capture its architectural features, conducting area referencing for precise measurement, and supplying a point cloud and viewer for comprehensive understanding and management. These initiatives not only preserve the building’s historical significance but also ensure its continued relevance in the 21st century as a testament to British heritage.
